This is a blog about WordPress and I’ve written a lot about how to use WordPress from every angle.
Part of the challenge of writing about WordPress over the past year has been the issue of writing about WordPress, the full version program where you can do just about anything you want, and writing about WordPress.com, the limited version of WordPress where you blog and do little else.
Under the surface, generally speaking, the two are the same. WordPress.com is usually a few steps ahead of the most current version of the full version of WordPress, though this may change as the two migrate over the next year or two away from each other. For now, they still have a symbiotic relationship.
So I had three sets of subjects to cover: how to use the full version and how to use the limited WordPress.com version. And then, how to use them both when they both worked the same.
To help explain the differences, and similarities, I wrote “WordPress Versions – How Many and What’s the Diff?”. I discuss more about the evolution of WordPress.com in “In the Beginning WordPress Begot WordPressMU Begot WordPress.com” and “Helping WordPress.com Users”.
So for this one year anniversary review, I’m going to divide up the sections in to WordPress tips only, the tips for using WordPress that cross between the two, and WordPress.com tips only.

In case you’re interested, here’s a review I wrote on WordPress – WordPress Review.
I’m also currently writing a WordPress theming tutorial.
Lots of good stuff on this site – thanks for all your efforts.
One thing I would like to learn is :
How do some people change the site name to their own name without the “wordpress” in it?
i.e. in your case could you change your site name from https://lorelle.wordpress.com to http://lorelle.com ?
@ TraderRod:
Money.
It costs about $15 a year (last I looked) to get a direct URL domain name from WordPress.com. It is still a WordPress.com blog, freely hosted with the benefits and limitations accordingly, but you will be blogging on the state of the art blog service and system.
Just so you know, those with the wordpress.com domain name haven’t been hurt in any way by that structure, which defies the myth that you HAVE to have a domain of your own. Unlike those on blogspot, like yourself, so far there isn’t the negative association when people see blogspot in the URL. I’ve heard of some bloggers so frustrated with blogspot blogs, they have banned all comments from those with that URL. Too radical to me, but that’s the reputation it has earned.
hi Lorelle
I’m a wordpress.com user. I found useful and helping post on this blog. I’ll bookmark your blog. Thanks a large for your post.
regards
