Structured Blogging is a WordPress Plugin that may change the face of many multi-topic blogs in the future. The group behind PubSub has put together a plugin that allows you to customize blog entries’ look and content depending upon the subject matter.
This is great for review blogs which cover a wide range of products such as music, television, and movies. A blog entry about music might feature a background image and/or elements related to music. A blog post about television might feature an image of a television. Same with movies. So when the reader is browsing through the posts, they can instantly recognize the difference between the different types of reviews.
Here is what they say:
Structured blogging is about making a movie review look different from a calendar entry. On the surface, it’s as simple as that – formatting blog entries around their content…On another level, it’s a bit more complicated – what we want to do is create structure (in the form of XML) around each of these types of entries, to organize the data inside and to let machine readers – other programs, sites, and aggregators – better understand the content.
I see greater possibilities beyond review sites, allowing users to differentiate articles from blog entries, or specific users’ posts. This is still in the development stage, so if you have a blog that will benefit from such usage, help them beta test the plugin.
