Why Do You Comment in the Comments?

I’m working on an article about comments, why people comment, and what comments do for recipients, and I ran across this wonderful commentary on the issue of comments from Kamigoroshi – Why Do You Comment On People’s Blogs?

Why does a person blog? My answer would be because they like to express their thoughts and satisfy their narcissism. Every blog may be different, but these are the times where almost everyone blogs about the same things. Hates, loves politics, controversies, misery, technology, “noodle” posts and even food. There is a limit to how different we can be when you realize that everyone can blog around the same things. The difference is, how any of us write…that makes a blog unique.

Then why does a person comment? Ahh…there is the brain teaser. To satisfy their narcissism by telling the world that they exist? To ask unrelated questions because they can’t find the damn Contact-Me page or the Chatbox? To give a valid point? Naturally it’s all of the above…but of the 3 reasons there, 2 of them are things I don’t need. A brownie point if you can tell me which they are.

So why comment? Why not comment? The answer is simple, because if a blog is truly unique, then I’d comment. Because if the blog actually grabs my attention, then I’d comment. Because if the blog has something I can relate to other than my own narcissistic need, then I’d comment. Because if the blog can make me happy, sad or otherwise pissed off, then I’d comment.

So, why do you comment on a blog? What compels you to reach out to the keyboard and expose yourself to the world? Blogging is totally narcisitic, without a doubt, but what about comments?

Because the combined area of our hands and mouth is bigger than our ears or eyes. It’s a strange yet truthful logic. 🙂

Blog is for the narcisism inside us? Yes, I’ve been thinking about it too. If you don’t want people to see your writings, you may write it in a book and stuff it under your pillow or lock it in your drawer. So why leave comment? If I like the post, if I understand the content, if I know the writer, if I feel good that day, if I want to, if I need to, or if you push me to, then yeah, I’ll leave a comment 🙂

So Lorelle when you writing comments on my blog it only meaning that you are approving or agreeing with my narcisism LOL just kidding 🙂

    I comment because I can’t shut up! 😉

Some things I like to say just fit better in other people’s blogs (my blog subject is very restrictive, plus it’s not operational yet).
I like to contributing, even marginally, to things grand (like Lorelle’s blog).
I believe that people who do great things need encouragement.

(Another idea for a post: ‘proof-read thrice !’)
