Liz Strauss on Successful and Outstanding Bloggers has done it again and got me really thinking with a recent post called “Ideas When I Get My Hair Cut”:
Yesterday, I got a haircut. While I was waiting I looked through a magazine and took notes. I took notes on articles and on advertisements. When I was through one magazine, I had complete ideas for four blog posts — not counting this one — and 27 phrases that I thought might spark ideas later.
Not bad for just sitting around waiting my turn.
This begs the questions: Where are you when your best ideas happen and what are your favorite resources for blogging ideas?

I’m giggling. Sure am glad you didn’t read the one about when I was procrasinating and used it for excuses to find ideas inside my refrigerator. 🙂
Thanks for noticing,
Liz
Funny that, actually. I have this habit of making notes on just about everything. Including phrases I hear throughout the day that are interesting and could be a source of inspiration later. I have a reporter size notebook literally bursting with words, phrases and little sketches. It might be interesting to scan some, in fact.
My personal life has been my main source recently. Someone will say something, or something will happen, and it will get me thinking.
It never hurts to see what’s hot on Technorati, Digg, etc. too, if you’re really stuck. But that much is probably obvious.
In the toilet, before I go to sleep, when I’m eating…always nowhere near the computer. Since I’m a personal blogger, the rest of my inspiration comes from life and everything else around it. Whatever I write becomes a reflection for all its worth.
How did I miss THAT ONE! Brilliant.
Ideas in Your Refrigerator
I let my mind wander. I listen to my friends. I meet weird people.
One of my blogs is about weight loss, so I used that keyphrase in Google Alerts to get daily emails which usually spark enough ideas for at least a few new posts.
I also get ideas from watching weight loss shows and I even ask my subscribers what their biggest weight loss questions are for even more post ideas.
My best ideas are usually at 2am while I’m feeding baby and can’t write them down, then I always forget right after.
Delirious discussions at lunch with colleagues
