Did you know that WordPress comes in at least 36 languages?
WordPress is available in most of the popular languages, but it is also in Basque, Serbian, Welsh, Hebrew, Icelandic, Korean, Indonesian, Catalan, and Turkish.
WordPress may be available in your language, and you can find help and installation information in the WordPress Codex on the page for WordPress in Your Language with general installation instructions at Installing WordPress in Your Language, though specific instructions are usually found on the first page.
WordPress in Your Language also features language specific help, upgrades, and plugins to expand your WordPress site in whatever language you are using. There are also a variety of WordPress Plugins available for Translation and Languages to help your WordPress site become bilingual or offer translation information.
Are you fluent in English and another language and want to help translate WordPress into your language? There is a lot of effort going on to not only translate WordPress, the program, but also the WordPress Codex and to provide language specific WordPress Forums and other support resources. If you would like to get involved, review the article on Translating WordPress and join the WordPress Polyglots Mailing List for translation discussions and helpful advice.
Just because a language is listed already, doesn’t mean that language and its volunteers don’t need help. There is a lot of help you can provide in your language to other WordPress users in your language. WordPress needs volunteers in all languages to help.

Hi Lorelle, you may help me in this issue - can a language translation of wordpress (.pot/.mo) have a different license then WordPress Itself? Our main translator, who maitain all changes in past years not made “his” language file available under special license (only nonprofit etc.). I think, that he is not allowed to do this, as the pot contain 50 % of original texts, which are protected under open-source license. But i havent found any information regarding this.

You will have to check on the WordPress Codex for details on licensing of translations. Or on the translation mailing list for WordPress. I don’t know what the rules are on this. They will know. Thanks and let me know what you find out on this.
