Blog Exercises: New Year’s Resolution

Blog Exercises on Lorelle on WordPress.Every year, Matt Mullenweg publishes his New Year’s resolutions. They’ve actually become quite famous as the founder of WordPress often announces goals associated with the free publishing platform, giving fans and developers a highlight of what’s coming.

We’re waiting on his resolutions for 2013 as he usually publishes them on January 11, his birthday, but past resolutions include Welcome 2005, Twenty-Five — Matt Mullenweg, 2007 Resolutions, Twenty-seven, and his original “Open Sourcing Resolutions” inviting the public to tell him what he should do or resolve in the coming year.

Blog Exercise Task from Lorelle on WordPress. It’s time for yours to go public if you are willing in these Blog Exercises.

You don’t have to be personal and reveal private things as you blog your resolutions (“I will floss my teeth more regularly to improve my bad breath”), and if you like, you may focus entirely on your business or site goals for the year.

It’s important to set goals for yourself and your blog. It often clears your mind and keeps you on track. It’s a form of contract, like marriage vows. You are publicly stating your commitment to stick by your blog through thick and thin for the next year.

As you write out your resolutions, take time to review how things went this past year. Did you meet your goals? Did you have some great milestones? Awards? Achievements?

Be honest with yourself and your audience. If you slipped or didn’t keep your commitments, tell them. You can’t move forward until you know where you’ve been, and being honest with yourself in the process speeds up the growth.

Let the world peek into yours as you reveal your hopes, dreams, plans, goals, and promises for the coming year.

If you have already posted your resolutions, take another look at them. Do they really reflect your plans for your site and your business? Second glances don’t hurt. Sometimes they help.

Remember, if you post this on your site, add a “hat tip” link to this post to generate a trackback. Or you may post a link in the comments, if you wish others following along with these exercises to read your resolutions.
