WordCamp Las Vegas Began With Blogger and Social Parties

Last weekend, my world was rocked in so many ways at 2009 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) and WordCamp Las Vegas. I have so much to tell you about my experience, but you’ll have to settle for pictures right now.

The first set of photographs started with a blogging event at CES with Robert Scoble and Gary Vaynerchuk. The two hour workshop, “Successful Blogging in Troubled Times,” was supposed to be an open forum for discussing how to make money in the economy slowdown in front of us, but turned into a “why should I have a blog” and “what do I do with my blog” discussion instead. It was still informative and had some great information, and I hope it was video taped as there were earth changing tidbits in the discussions.

Then we all raced to the Atomic Testing Museum for a private social event sponsored by The Parnassus Team, where some of the top bloggers mixed it up with a wide variety of corporate sponsors and business folks.

A dream of mine came true when I met LeVar Burton and got to tell him thank you for changing my life and the lives of so many.

I spent a lot of time with Vincent Everts of Passie voor innovatie en gadgets and Vincent Everts on blip.tv who interviewed me about WordPress and WordCamp Las Vegas and how WordPress is changing the world of publishing and communication.

Then it was back across town to the Ultimate Blogger Dinner with Chris Heuer of Social Media Club and a ton of top bloggers. One of the sponsors was Lenovo, a computer manufacturer that has teamed up with the Star Trek franchise to promote the new upcoming Star Trek movie, Bad Robot. I was in Star Trek dreamland.

Chris and I also did a live interview live on Ustream, and I’m still hunting for the link to the archived version. We talked about WordPress, WordCamps, and the changing world of blogging.

Afterward, a group of bloggers raced across town again to a huge party sponsored by Monster Cable celebrating their 30th anniversary in business. It was an evening of awards and honors which culminated with a performance by Diana Ross and a trip down memory lane with her history-making hits.

Sitting only a meter or so from us was Stevie Wonder. In the audience were major rock, movie, and television stars, many who benefit from the powerful cables and sound system gear Monster Cable has become renown, and we were thrilled to be among all the shining lights of talent.

It was a night of singing, stars, and great laughter among new friends. A night that I will never forget.
