The Blog Widget Competition Begins

WordPress announced WordPress Widgets to accessorize the sidebar in WordPress.com Themes, then announced a WordPress Plugin for any full version WordPress user or WordPress Theme designer to incorporate WordPress Widgets into their Themes. Now, Typepad is launching Blog Widgets to accessorize Typepad blogs.

The race is on.

WordPress was first out of the gate, but so far, with the latest announcement from Typepad, Typepad is winning with quantity. Here is a list of some of the 32 blog accessorizing and customization features, Widgets, available from Typepad:

While new Widgets for WordPress will undoubtedly be forthcoming in droves, the list currently includes:

  • Pages
  • Categories
  • Links
  • Feeds
  • Most recent posts
  • Most recent comments
  • meta/admin
  • Text

Now that the race has started, stay tuned for a ton of new WordPress Widgets, and who knows how we will all benefit from the competition.

Although typepad has more widgets then, WordPress but wordpress rocks in speed, so no fear from the difference of both the lists length, WordPress is cool.

As I posted in my blog, at this point both Typepad and WordPress seem be equal in what I call the “Widget Wars”. 😀 But maybe Typepad has a slight edge due to more apps. But the future looks strong for both!

In less than 24 hours, I have already encountered seven themes and seven widgets. It was enough to start a WordPress Widgets blog! We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Hi – I don’t have a TypePad or WordPress version yet, but I have just launched a fun new Daily Painters Widget that can be pasted into any blog or web page. Displays a rotating selection of new paintings from over 40 ‘one-a-day’ painters.

    Check it out: dailypainters.com/daily_painters_widget.php
