Unworthy Again: Nominated for Performancing Awards

On the list of things I’m not worthy of are two award nominations from Peformancing: Most Influential Blogger Award and Best Writing and Blogging Award.

It’s a reader’s choice poll, so you can vote for your favorites. I’m in good company, but also intimidated by the company I’m in. They are MUCH better than me at all of this blogging stuff. Give them your vote and I’m going to vote for them, too.

Thanks to Performancing and their crew for including me and my little blog about WordPress and blogging.

I just keep doing what I do, pausing to kick your blogging ass once in a while. I’m just glad you are here. That means more to me than the awards. Thanks.

Congratulations on your nominations! Your blog always seems to help me out when I need something and your post are always easy to read and follow.

    Lorelle,

I was one of the many who nominated you. Also, because you recently commented at my blog, I’m also tagging you for a meme, with the question: “What do you expect from your blog?”

I’ve only recently started receiving your feed, but I’ve learned a lot from you in a short period of time. Thanks for great content, and the nominations are well deserved.

Comgrats… you totally undersell yourself 🙂

Those award nominations may mean nothing to you, Lorelle, but your blog means a lot to me. And I am sure it means a lot to other bloggers too.

    Congratulations on the nominations 😀

Lorelle, I think you cannot contest against either of the nominations. Your readers, like me, are the best ones to say whether you influence us or not. I say you have been like a guiding light through your writings and thoughts. I wonder if I would be blogging at all if I was not reading you. So, congratulations, and whatever happens at the awards, you already influenced and helped a lot of people.

I disagree with you. You are more than worthy of nomination and winning!

Begging to differ with your self-assessment re the Awards-nominations, Lorelle.

It appears that the awards are for “Most Influential” and for “Best Writing”. Not for, say, “dazzling deployment of iTech” or “scoring the sexiest talking-points”. Perhaps others have an edge in these areas, and perhaps some judge nominees on them.

But in terms of “influence” and “writing”, I don’t see you giving up much to many, at all. The 2 factors that I see making the VanFossen difference are keeping the focus on the audience rather than the other experts, and the consistent application of Thomas Edison’s favorite dictum.

Sorry, but I’ll have to decline your nomination-advice. 😉

I humbly suggest you stop worrying about such trifles as if you are “worthy” or not and let your readers decide for you. It’s up to them after all. Besides, we’re always our own worst critics. At least the good ones are.

You are more than “worthy” Lorelle. Just take our word for it and leave the rest. 😀

And sorry, but I’m also disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Good thing we can vote for more than one, huh?

Excuse me, but I violated my rule about undefined Americanisms.

Thomas Edison, leading “influential” 19th C. (American) inventor:

“Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.”

    Thank you, Ted

I find your blog to be an enormous help, and think you deserve to win.
Your writing is clear, and there is so much here to help others.
    You definitely have my vote!
    All the best in 2008.:-)

You got my vote too – and you’re out in front! Good luck.

Sorry dear, I can’t agree with you. I know you are worthy for this nomination.

    Congrats 😉

Sorry – I’ve just stumbled across your blog for the first time, and all I can say to that is, “False modesty doesn’t become you.” That, or “I’m going to have to check out these other bloggers if they’re even better than you!” 🙂

    Hey Lorelle! its well deserved.

    Hey Lorelle,

Quit dissing my girl Lorelle. She is quite an influential blogger and could squash you like a bug beneath the mighty foot of her influence… were it in her nature to do such a thing, which it is not. 😉

Your writing is clear, informative, and pithy. So don’t go changin’ to try and please me. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have votes to cast.

  19. Posted January 6, 2008 at 12:05 am | Permalink

    @ Holly:

    Trust me, they are better.

  20. Posted January 6, 2008 at 1:13 pm | Permalink

But Lorelle, I don’t know you well enough, yet, to trust you on that! 😉 There’s always someone out there who’s better, but you’ve been nominated and, from what I can see, are deserving of an award. I’ll check them out, too, though!

    @ Holly Jahangiri:

Ah, there you go. Do you trust them to tell you who is deserving of such awards? 😀

  22. Posted January 6, 2008 at 4:05 pm | Permalink

Hey if you don’t want it then I hope you don’t win it. Simple as that!

    Best wishes

  23. Posted January 6, 2008 at 8:06 pm | Permalink

“Do you trust them to tell you who is deserving of such awards?”

Of course not! I did check them out. I voted for…

Now, would I tell you that? That’s PRIVATE! Good luck, though. 🙂

At least you don’t get slammed dunked by a company by being voted worst non-us blogger of the year 2007.

    Best regards

  25. Posted January 7, 2008 at 2:40 pm | Permalink

Aww, Azrin, that’s not nice! (But still, it IS a distinction, of sorts! And I clicked your name just to see what might constitute the WORST non-US blogger of the year, but I have to disagree. Oh, boy, could I name worse ones. Maybe not THE worst…that’d be almost harder than choosing the BEST! 🙂

  26. Posted January 7, 2008 at 4:25 pm | Permalink

    Congratulations, Lorelle. You deserve it.

  27. Posted January 9, 2008 at 8:02 am | Permalink

If there’s someone better at making Westi’s posts human-readable (although very helpful), it would be you. Congratulations and best wishes. 🙂

    Lorelle –
I don’t read other blogs a lot, but yours has come on my radar recently – primarily on doing searches regarding WordPress semantics. I think you definitly fit the 9Rules requirements to be deemed WORTHY AGAIN.

At a point, you do need to step-up and acknowledge who you are and what you’re capable of. Not only have you been nomindated, a second time, but your readers tell you “whatever” when you blog about your (modesty) feelings of unworthiness. They believe in you – that’s what counts and matters. You can be as modest as you like, but the fact is you deserve the honor. You don’t have to have a big head and say “vote for me, I want it.” Likewise, you also don’t have to deem yourself unworthy, considering so many other people believe otherwise. I don’t know how to tell you to react, but I’ll tell you that not only 9Rules, and your readers know you’re worthy … you know it too and should acknowledge this yourself.

    @ Chip:

Thanks for the kind words, and honestly, I have received many awards and accolades for this blog and other online work I do, and only a few do I ever publish or fuss over. They aren’t the reason I do this and they do embarrass me.

As for acknowledging who I am and what I’m capable of, I don’t need an award to tell me that. I know those answers.

I wish I could explain this better. The moment those awards become important to me, my work here is done. It’s not about the trophies. It’s about the work. It’s about you, the reader. That is my reward.

I want everyone who does well in blogging to get the acknowledgment they deserve, but more importantly, that they want. Me, I don’t want them. You reading and enjoying what I write is motivation and encouragement enough.

It’s not false modesty. It’s reality.

Besides, these mean little unless they come with cash. 😀
