In Lorelle’s WordPress School free online course last week, we started to cover a little more technical information focusing on code within the content areas and the way WordPress generates links:
- WordPress School: Images
- WordPress School: Visual and Text Editors
- WordPress School: Paragraphs and Line Breaks
- WordPress School: Addresses and URLs
- WordPress School: Forgetting the Post or Page Title
In addition to the above assignments, I announced a special project assignment in our WordPress School Google+ Community, extra credit if you will. You are to choose a topic from a long list and write a short tutorial on your test site. Published tutorials have the opportunity to be republished here on this site as part of these WordPress School lessons.
Up for the challenge?
You’ve now completed a month of Lorelle’s WordPress School. Congratulations!
This week, the 4th in this year-long series, we continue with the Article Series on your test site.
I’m hoping to cover the following this week:
- Embedding Videos in WordPress
- Add a Gallery of images in WordPress
- Continue on with the article series on your test site where you will add images and video to the second post in the series, and a gallery in the third post in the series.
Later this week I will introduce you to the language of HTML. Don’t worry, you can handle it.
The next week we will continue to work on the article series, learning even more about how to publish with WordPress, dive more into WordPress multimedia, and start to look at WordPress Theme customization.
Our WordPress School Google+ Community has become very active. Join us by by responding to the assignment posts rather than starting your own thread on the assignment discussion. This keeps the discussions together so we can learn from each other as we work on each assignment.
Ready to rock?
Stop the Excuses
As we plow forward, I’d like to take a moment and consider all the excuses you may have for not learning how to use WordPress better or even to start blogging for the first time.
We all have excuses. I know I do. So far in this course I’ve had three deaths in the family, a cold, traveled extensive distances, and had to take care of my home alone as my husband is on a long term work project in the Midwestern United States and preparing to head overseas for another project. The last wouldn’t be such a big deal but several huge storms came through and I’m cleaning up storm damage, too.
It’s only been a month into this project and life has twisted in and around, but the work goes on.
Life consists of excuses, reasons for letting things get in the way of doing what we really want to do. I know there are those of you out there that want to blog, to share your thoughts and expertise with the world, to become the next novelist, to teach, to share your artwork or crafts, or just to be heard.
Get out of your own way. You can do this. Make time. You know you can. We always do when we get out of our way and make the decision to make things happen.
You give me a reason to keep going with the kindness and support of your comments both here, on Google+, and throughout social media. I’m thrilled that some of you are blogging about your experience in this online course on your own sites, spreading the word. We’ve got families doing this together as well as people from around the world sharing their insights and lessons learned.
You are the reason I do this. What is the reason you need to finally take the step forward, no more excuses.
