Using some of the stats from my recent article on WordPress Stats, Yoast did some more research and created a new WordPress Stats Infographic to feature the statistical information on WordPress visually.
What is most interesting about the new research his team found, building upon my own research, are the following:
- 48% of the top 100 blogs use WordPress as their CMS. 39% are self-hosted and 9% are hosted on WordPress.com.
- In the United Kingdom, WordPress is ten times as popular as Drupal and Joomla, representing almost 54% as of March 2012.
- 93% of the websites in the United States are using WordPress, compared to 4.17% for Drupal and 2.34% for Joomla.
- ODesk lists WordPress as the fifth most requested skill for those offering or seeking WordPress jobs.
As we look at all the numbers around WordPress and the recent article in Smashing Magazine on the WordPress economy by Siobhan McKeown, we’re finding a seriously stable base of support and personal and commercial self-interest in continuing to use WordPress.

Hi ! I am Nandita B from Mumbai, India. The city dream and joy. Professionally I am a teacher and did my master degree in Botany. I like traveling, swimming and of course blogging on my WordPress Powered blog.
I was not a techo girl earlier. I heard about blogging and WordPress for the first time from a fellow patient, when I was in a hospital in Jan 2011. I don’t know, when and how I attracted towards WordPress. By Mar 2011 I was completely obsessed with WordPress.
After writing few blog posts on a free WordPress blog, I became interested in customizing and styling my own way. Then I preferred for a hosted service and registered a domain name. By Jun 2011, I was so much in love with WordPress that I took a month of leave from my school, only to mastery the WordPress and how to blog better with WordPress and SEO part associated with it.
In mid Nov 2011, finally I made MoneyCTL.com using WordPress as a platform (thanks to JustHost.com). I have a dream of ” Making a living out of WordPress and WordPress blog “. May be in 2013 I quit my teachership to devote full time for my WordPress blog. I am a novice and still learning the tricks of the trade.
God knows, my dream of becoming a full time blogger with my WordPress blog will be fulfilled or not.

About 6 months ago I was doing some research for the “why we use WordPress” bit of our sales page and came up with this graphic.
I can’t blame anyone else for the horrible design, it’s all on me – that was my 1st infographic & my design skills aren’t the best. Hope there’s something interesting in there for you – I was trying to demonstrate the sheer scale of the WordPress ecosystem in numbers.

Amazing figures for such a still relatively young platform. I was wondering if you’ve ever thought about switching to the self-hosted version of WordPress? Or have you always been happy with the .com version?
I’m guessing it’s never done you any harm in terms of SEO – I see your blog pop up all the time when I’m searching for stuff 🙂
I have many WordPress sites of all different types, every type of WordPress. As one of the first beta testers of WordPress.com, I’m very proud of it.
