Holiday Cheer Needed to Help Release WordPress 3.1

WordPress Christmas LightsWe take and take and take from WordPress, people all over the world, all for free. Now it’s time to give a little back.

If you have even the least coding experience, the WordPress development team needs your help over the next few days to test WordPress 3.1 Beta 2 and get the Release Candidates out to the world for final testing. As a couple hours ago, Nacin reported they were down to 9 open tickets (though and your help is needed.

You can download WordPress 3.1 Beta 2 in three flavors: Zip file, Tar.gz, and md5.

The outstanding ticket items involve familiarity with the new internal linking feature, External Script Libraries dependencies, textarea escaping functionality, multisite Administration Panel interface issues with the user’s panel, fixing the popular Press This feature, nonces for security, and fixing Right-to-Left (RTL) issues.

Even if you have no familiarity with these features and functions, please take a few hours to test run the new beta release of WordPress, poking all the buttons and pressing all the levers, to see if you can uncover anything missed and report it.

If you can’t help directly with development, help spread the word to those who can. Show us some WordPress Community spirit!

WordPress 3.1 is much anticipated, bringing with it long wanted features such as custom post formats (so you can have post templates to choose from when you publish your blog posts) and internal linking (allowing you to easily link to your past posts with a couple of clicks).

Let’s great the new year with a stable WordPress 3.1 Release Candidate so we can all benefit from the joys of WordPress.
