With work underway with the Google/WordPress Summer of Code which includes work on the native gallery system within WordPress, let’s not overlook some of the WordPress Plugins which have taken the bare bones of the WordPress gallery feature and turned it into magic.
Some of these gallery Plugins were hard at work presenting images on photoblogs and art blogs long before WordPress came up with the gallery feature and Media Library, so they have a long history of helping WordPress users display their images in unique and fun ways with lightbox effects, easy image management from multiple sources, and more.
Blog Oh Blog has reviewed what they think are the 10 best WordPress Gallery Plugins.
They include:
- PhotoXhibit
- Lazyest Gallery Plugin
- Cleaner WordPress Gallery Plugin
- Inline Gallery Plugin
- WP Photo Album Plugin
- FlippingBook Gallery Plugin
- NextGen Gallery Plugin
- Lightbox Gallery Plugin
- AWSOM PixGallery Plugin
- Falbum Gallery Plugin

Hi Lorelle,
The photo info was just what i was looking for today! Thanks so much for your insight.
Danny
Very interesting and useful. Thanks Lorelle – you the best!
I use the nexgen gallery with the smooth gallery addition, very cool stuff for rotating slide shows and showcasing product photos and things…
Thanks for the links, Lorelle. The stock gallery feature in WordPress doesn’t quite do it for me and now that I’ve been posting more photos, I’m going to check out these plugins.
Also, I really like Matt’s photo gallery (places data alongside the photo itself) from his old design, so I’m excited that he’ll be releasing that theme along with the gallery. Hopefully it won’t be too difficult to extract just that part of the design.
Thanks for this great post. It is just what I needed!
Hi Lorelle,
Thank you for mentioning my AWSOM Pixgallery plugin and referring to the blogohblog.com site write up on it. It’s much appreciated!
I just recently started testing the NextGen photo plugin and I’m loving it. Really fantastic, though a bit hard to start using at first. I think I’m even more excited about Matt Mullenweg’s Random Image Script.
On an unrelated note, do you remember the radio show you did a few months ago where you gave away two books? I won one and spent fifteen minutes or so chatting with you all.
I’ve been blogging for about 3 months now (almost everyday)and I’ve only added pictures to my blog once. I think I’m ready to get my feet wet so to speak by adding more pictures now. Thanks for providing some good options.
I love nextgen gallery! It’s easy to use and gave me choices how I want to present my images. Thank you 🙂
Thank you Lorelle,
I’ve just found what I need!
