WordPress Logogate
Among Matt’s new year’s resolutions is to get the WordPress Community using the correct WordPress logo. He’s created a comparison image to convince everyone to use the right logo, but that wasn’t enough. Many thought the difference between the two was the color when it’s reallyl the font. So he’s created a new specific version to help you understand:
Color it whatever you want, but use the right base to start with. The font counts. When playing with the WordPress logo, start with the Official WordPress logos.
Also, WordPress is spelled WordPress not Wordpress. To make this part of his new year’s resolutions come true, he’s written a script to force Wordpress into WordPress across all of the 5 million plus blogs on WordPress.com. Instant gratification.
WordPressMU Update Released
WordPressMU 2.7 is now available, the multi-user version of WordPress than runs WordPress.com and other blog networks. This new version includes the latest version of WordPress and a lot of bug fixes. It also includes the exciting announcement that Viper007bond’s admin bar has been added to the core to make it even easier to use.
BuddyPress News
Andy Peatling announced BuddyPress Beta 2 would be delayed until WordPressMU’s latest version was released, but now that WordPressMU 2.7 is out, he has no excuses. Stay tuned for more news on this exciting social media WordPress Theme for WordPressMU blog networks.
Super Cache WordPress Plugin Updated
WP Super Cache has undergone a variety of patches and updates recently, and is now at version 0.9 with some great improvements for mobile user agents, reduction of cache files for sites with a lot of anonymous visitors, improvved compression and expiry times. Reports are that the new version is faster than ever.
JavaScript and Plugins in WordPress 2.8
Loading JavaScript In Footer In WordPress 2.8 is another tutorial for WordPress Plugin authors by Lester Chan on how to improve your WordPress Plugin’s use of code and JavaScript. This one tackles how to load JavaScript properly into the footer in preparation for WordPress 2.8.

I love what Matt’s script is doing to this post and the comments, which everyone is noticing! It is becoming really funny!
On a serious note, it is a culture that needs to be imbibed. The script can only work on blogs within the domain. What about outside?

There’s something that squicks me ever so slightly about messing with people’s blog content for a laugh. text-transform:lowercase, here I come.
Heh. Lorelle, you might want to add a note to the post explaining the difference in WordPress spelling since the script has fixed the error and they are both the same now. With as little coffee as I had on board this AM I read that sentence a few times before it dawned on me why they are the same.

To avoid your lowercase p in WordPress being corrected by the script, make a little image or something that shows the lowercase p with a big cross through it and a checkmark beside the correct capitalized P.
As powerful as the script is, I don’t think it can go through graphics… yet.
OK, cute trick, but it would really irritate me to have my content messed with. I guess that’s why I’m self-hosted.
Thanks to all who caught that I forgot to switch the WordPress into Wordpress which means the P is in an HTML character entity. Should never post these things late at night when I’m tired. I’m so glad everyone is paying attention.
For those who wish to use the lowercase p for the technique of explaining this issue, it is replaced by p for future reference.
Where did the ‘wrong’ WP logo initiate from? Is it an older version?
The WordPress/WordPress script seems to have been disabled for this page? It all shows the way it should (with mistake where intended).
I’ve corrected the spelling of WordPress within this post, but it might still be in the feeds. It is spelled correctly throughout the post except where it shouldn’t be per example.
As for the “wrong” logo, when people started creating their own versions, they used a “W” font that matched but wasn’t a perfect match. Matt spent a lot of time going through various fonts in the creation of the original logo and he wants that font preserved. People can play with the colors, but he loves that font, and I think it’s a lovely touch to the “W” in the circle. I believe the font is Dante-mt, but when I look at it, I’m not sure that’s right, but that’s the font mentioned in the forums and mailing lists.
Lloyd Budd has a great example page of a lot of variations on a theme for the WordPress logo.
Mullenweg messing with people’s blog content so that it conforms with his idea of proper? Seems Big Brotherish to me. But Obama would probably approve.
Matt designed the current logo? I know he did the pre-2.0 version — the one in Dante — but I was under the impression this one was handled by a professional designer.
(So too it seems is Jason Santa Maria of Happy Cog, who claims to have done it.)
Wow, a whole lot of noise about a non-issue. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech or any of the other assumptions being made. Goodness. WordPress is spelled WordPress and spelling it that way is a sign of respect to the trademark. There are many bloggers using the various WordPress Plugins listed in More WordPress Logogate. WordPress enthusiasts can be fanatic about spelling it correctly, which is where the Plugins came from to make sure they did.
I also never said Matt designed the logo, but he certainly had a say in its creation. Don’t you when you design your logo?
I see this issue has brought out the nasties, never my intention. If there is anyone who has done more for giving people the freedom to express themselves around the world than Matt, in spite of having WordPress.com banned from access in some parts of the world because the WordPress.com team wouldn’t back down when freedom of speech was under attack, name them. Let’s honor them all. You’ll see the number is very small.

If it was a non-issue then there wouldn’t be a whole lot of noise about it, would there. Obviously it is an issue, and should be treated as one instead of trying to dismiss the fact. Any (and every) plugin that alters someones writing should be disabled by default and the user should be given the OPTION of enabling it, not vice-versa.
