Blog Challenge: Intelligent Online Toys and Play Things

I recently found the The Perception Laboratory’s Face Transformer, a site that allow you to “mess up your face”, or at least a photograph.

There are lot of fun things to do on the web besides just playing traditional games and shoot ’em up games. This week’s blog challenge is:

Blog a listing of your favorite online toys and play things that aren’t “games”.

No, I don’t want a list of your favorite online, video, or computer games. What I’m looking for are fun things you can do on the web like mess with graphics, play games with domain names, create logos, badges, word and writing games that help you write better, and more “intelligent” fun things to do on the web. Any other blog challengers out there challenging you to blog better? What fun things, other than games, do you like to play with on the web?

These are published weekly and are an attempt to kick your blogging ass. They serve to challenge your thinking and efforts in blogging and blog writing. To participate, start challenging yourself now. Today. Go for it.

    Hi Lorelle,

I am really enjoying subscribing to your blog! Thanks for some really good topics.
I decided to take you up on this week’s challenge and I really enjoyed doing it. I realized something interesting, that there are probably LOADS more interesting things to do online that I have yet to discover.

    Thanks again!

I had such great fun with the face transformer last year. I look scary old but nice in a Mucha style 🙂

I like to play note games on Flickr. It’s not quite a game and there are no rules, it’s some kind of secretive way of communicating through Flickr notes.

Check out the first ever on-line photo booth! No camera is required!

    Play with Gooogie.

Is this the kind of stuff you was after?

I did a post on a tool for writer’s block.
The magnetic poetry tool is supposed to get you thinking about words differently.
I don’t know if it really helps anyone with writing but it’s kind of neat anyway.

    @ myeggnoodles:

Actually, what I wanted, and what these blog challenges are about, is for you to blog about the topic, not necessarily tell me here. It’s a challenge to help you find subjects to blog about.

I use the free inkscape program when I want to mess around. I followed a few tutorials and took my main avatar (photo of me of course 🙂
and used it to create a cartoon image of my self. Really it’s a sad piece of work but the tool is fun to use. I use it with my websites for creating banners. inkscape.org

It is a very good challenge. I am really enjoying this experience. Although it is very interesting to play online games, there are various other methods too. I am ready to take this challenge.

I look forward to what you have to blog about the subject.

Please remember this is not a challenge to blog about online gaming, but to blog about playful tools you can use to help you blog better on the web such as graphic programs, Wordle, and so on. NOT GAMES.

      Thanks.

In my opinion even creation of blog is also an online toy. Actually it is an interesting process if we completely aware of the topic about which we creates the blog.

I tend to treat blogs more seriously than I do my toys, but that is one way of looking at it. Thanks.
