Exciting Lorelle on WordPress News
Guest Blogging on Problogger: My second guest article on Problogger was Blogging Is About Writing, and appears to be a resounding success. It was dugg by Digg and has over 80 comments and, according to Technorati, 63 sites linked to the article, and Google shows 42. I checked because I wanted to leave thank you notes on the appropriate linking blogs. Wow.
The first article I wrote for Problogger, Blog Translations: The Next Web Frontier, on the issues of blog translations and how far ahead and behind the technology of translation is on the web, was also popular. The writing article’s popularity shows that there is definitely an interest in improving your writing skills through blogging.
Guest Blogging on Writing Great Ezines and Blogs: I also did a guest post on Writing Great Ezines & Blogs from Patsi Krakoff, aka the Blog Squad. “Your Writing Persona: Who Are You?” is a different type of article on writing on your blog. It is about developing the persona, the character you are when you blog, a critical factor in blogging often overlooked.
I’ve written similar things such as Are You Who You Blog You Are? and Who The Hell Are You?, but this is the first time I laid down tips to help you choose a blogging persona, the person who writes your blog. You won’t see this special article here, so go check it out there.
Celebrate WordPress Plugins: The response from the WordPress community on my request for WordPress Plugins I wanted at the end of my month long series featuring WordPress Plugins has been amazing. Another new Plugin has been added to the “Lorelle Wanted” list. The Post Preview Navigation WordPress Plugin puts back the post preview jump link in your full version WordPress blog which was removed in recent versions. This saves the scrolling finger from scrolling up and down the page to view the post as it will look when published, and back up to the edit area. Excellent. We need to nag WordPress.com to either put back the preview link or use this Plugin.
Here is a list of the following new WordPress Plugins developed to improve the handling and capabilities of your WordPress blog, because I asked and others added their voices:
- Post Preview Navigation WordPress Plugin
- Admin Panel Comment Reply WordPress Plugin
- Genki Announcement WordPress Plugin
- Genki Pre-Publish Reminder WordPress Plugin
- Comments Waiting Count WordPress Plugin
I’d love to have a WordPress Plugin Marathon, encouraging and promoting the development of WordPress Plugins. What do you think? Want to get in on the planning? Let me know.
WordCamp 2007 will be July 21-22 in San Francisco for fans and developers of WordPress. There is now an official WordCamp 2007 Upcoming Events page. This is the second annual meeting and WordPress users will be attending from all over the world, possibly even me. The turnout is expected to be at least double, if not triple, from last year’s event, so make sure you make arrangements as soon as possible.
I’m finalizing my plans this week regarding my attendance and involvement in the The Successful and Outstanding Blogger Conference (SOBCon07) in Chicago, May 11-12. It’s slated to be an amazing full day of workshops by top blogging and web professionals on community building and new interactive technologies to help you build your blog and your blogging business. Space is very limited for this unusual and exciting conference.
I am so excited with the growing number of WordPress groups and meetups around the world. If you are involved or know of one, get them listed on my WordPress Events Page. I list the WordPress events I find in my WordPress Wednesday on the Blog Herald, too.
I have several other guest blogging gigs lined up and will be announcing them soon. I’m also thinking of having guest bloggers here on Lorelle on WordPress. Any recommendations? Who would you like to hear from on this blog?
What’s Happening with Lorelle on WordPress
This past week’s articles from Lorelle on WordPress included:
- Lorelle is Naked
- Integrating FeedBlitz Feed Email Service Into WordPress
- New Version of Spam Karma Released
- Top Blogs in India Honors for ifacethoughts
- Is Your Blog Ready for Web 3.0?
- Blog Challenge: Does Your Blog Make a Difference?
- Future Laptops Faster and Less Battery Drain – But Cooler?
- Tony Hung: How to Market Your Blog in 2007
- Blog Building: Who Controls Your Blog? You? Your Host?
- Weekly Digest: Hating Web Hosts, Blog Herald WordPress Wednesdays, and WordPress Plugins
Many of this week’s posts got a lot of attention. Lorelle is Naked was about my blog’s participation in the CSS Naked Day, an annual event where websites and blogs strip down to their underlying architecture, revealing that pretty is in the CSS, not necessarily in the beholder. 😉 It is a shock to see a web design worked on for so long suddenly gone, but the view of the underlying architecture is all search engines and some visually impaired and handicapped readers ever see. It’s good to know that we are beautiful under our clothes – er – CSS. 😉
I took a few minutes to cruise the web looking for announcements of other bloggers going CSS naked. The titles announcing their nakedness for April 5th were hysterical. Some that caught my attention were:
- Strip Down: Naked CSS Day
- Stripped Off
- Get Your Divs Out for the Lads
- Are you feeling the chilly breeze?
- Naked Time!
- Naked & Famous
- ¿Desnudos?
- In the Nude
- Some Folks go Sans CSS
- Naked Librarians
- Getting Your CSS Off
One of my favorite explanations on why the site was naked came from Superfluous Banter in “OMG I’m Naked!”
So, I had this dream last night, and I was standing in front of the entire internet totally naked, and when I woke up, I realized it wasn’t a dream! Today marks the 2nd Annual CSS Naked Day…
While written for FeedBlitz feed email subscriptions, Integrating FeedBlitz Feed Email Service Into WordPress could easily work for any email subscription service which converts your feed into an email subscription for your readers. I learned that Feedburner now offers an email service, too. This technique is not about producing a newsletter. It turns your feed into a kind of newsletter by emailing it to those who don’t get the RSS thing.
Is Your Blog Ready for Web 3.0? caught a lot of people’s attention as they start thinking about their blog’s place in the quickly changing social atmosphere and content scraping future.
I Hate My Web Host also continues to draw a lot of attention and I’m finding that while many have very good recommendations on hosts, most people have trouble understanding what features are most important in choosing a good web host. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to come up with some helpful answers for them.
The Successful and Outstanding Blogger Conference continues to get a lot of attention. As part of my participation, I started a series on the Blog Herald about Building Blog Relationships. My personal exploration of how blogs build relationships which enhance your experience, your performance, and income is very exciting. I’m sure the conference will push my learning curve through the roof.

Thanks for finding the Spam Blog series linkworthy Lorelle. It made my day when I found out.
Heya,
Your WP Wednesday category link doesn’t seem to work – I’d kinda like that feed 🙂
Cheers, James
Thanks for spotting that. Something changed in their permalinks. And thanks for enjoying that information.
Hey, you’re becoming my one stop, once a week WP news source… exactly what I need… shame the BH doesn’t do category feeds though (or if they do I can’t find them) … they should take a hint from you 🙂
Actually, they do. You just have to be a little techie to find it.
Blogging category: http://www.blogherald.com/category/blogging/feed
WordPress category: http://www.blogherald.com/category/wordpress/feed
(Which includes WordPress Wednesday News)
😉
And James, you know I’m one of your biggest fans!
Heh, my techie acumen can fall down on occasions, keep up the great work 🙂
