before anything i’d like to congratulate you on the amazing series you’ve put together.
it’s, as usual, a great source of inspiration and a reference. i use your site whenever i have a wordpress-related question.

my blog has some sort (small) of customizing, i didn’t use all the stuff you’ve mentioned.
i just use a couple of famfam icons when posting about movies, on a line bellow the tittle, and a tag icon at the end of the post, pointing to related content.

other than that i have some buttons on the sidebar, linking to my profile at some other sites and some other buttons linking to software and web services.

also added a rss feed to include ma.gnolia links (still no widget available).

you can find an example post here:

thanks for all the work you’re doing.

While I see that this list might actually become useful for some bloggers (and I think) I still have one question left:

You ARE aware that you have unleashed a catastrophy equaling the blink tag onto the poor blog-reading population?

There’s at least one article missing in your blog-bling series: “How to know when you scare off your readers with too much bling.”

I have a cool blog bling which just happens to be possible with the wordpress theme I run. For the “internet sharing” theme I run the right sidebar code is actually contained in the main index and single post templates.
    What does that mean?
It means that I can have different sidebars depending on whether you’re in single post view or in main index view.
Of course, I had to hard code the sidebar areas individually in each php file, but it would be super cool if someone could code a widgetized theme where you could choose which widgets to display in the sidebar depending on certain conditions or page views. Any takers?

I try to keep my site simple, and I’m also not capable of making it too customized, but I’ve done the following:

Added a feed for a specific tag in my links in to my sidebar, using Simplepie‘s awesome RSS parsing WordPress plugin… include ability to subscribe to links by e-mail using Feeburner.

Also include ability to subscribe to blog by e-mail using Feedburner.

Created my own “submit to” link at the bottom of each post.

Installed GaMeRz’ slick WP-Email plugin to make it easy to send posts by e-mail.

Have my Flickr photos Flash widget and my LibraryThing random books in my sidebar (sooner or later, someone will buy a book via that and I’ll start raking in the dough!)…

    Great series Lorelle!

I agree that your site is great of helpful tips. I did not read this series yet, but I will go back and see what other bling I can add based on your articles. 🙂

I took a theme that I loved, tweaked it to work with gallery2, added tons of plugins, pics, google adsense, movie plug-in’s and more.

I am always tweaking and adding stuff. Some day I will be happy with it. 🙂

Those with full version WordPress blogs have an easy job of doing it right when adding blog bling to their blogs. This series has been dedicated to blogs, which means the blogger has a challenge of designing blog bling without CSS. It takes old fashioned techniques combined with some creativity to pretty up your blog outside of the sidebar bling options.

I’m thrilled with all of the bloggers who are reaching and stretching their imagination to add design elements to their post content area without using CSS. Great job!

This article is about blog accessorizing. It appears your site is not on More importantly, while flash is fun, it is also not SEO friendly. Take care in replacing your blog title and tagline with non-SEO friendly gimmicks.

Great posts and fun stuff to work with, you just helpt me to improve my Blog.

I have implemented the Technorati tags, an Image only branding Signature, Text widget as Intro.

Besides that, redirecting the standard feed via Feedburner with larger feed button (I love Feedburner because it makes subscribing to a feed so much easier) And I even put up an (afll) link to Amazon for Blogging for Dummies (uploading Image to and then change the image link in the code) which is great for starting to learn how to Blog.

And some eye candy to bring some more fun in to the sidebar.
Next to that, I put up a link to your book, which is still on my whishlist, well maybe next year.
