A while ago I wrote about celebrity bloggers. That article continues to attract attention and that got me thinking.
Who Do You Think is a Celebrity Blogger?
When I wrote that article, to me, a celebrity was a movie star, famous in-the-news person. Someone with “fans”. I wanted to highlight the famous celebrities who blogged, and I have to admit that it was very frustrating writing the article because what I call a blog and what they call a blog can mean different things.
For some, it means the same as my definition: writing and posting frequently on events, interests, and opinions. For others, it’s another publicity stunt and they “just must have a blog, too”, wanting to participate in the blogging fad. Someone else writes their babble and the celeb just shows up for the photo shoot, lending an opinion once in a rare while. I tried to find celeb blogs where the celeb actually does the writing. It was tough.
Now that I’ve explored the blogosphere even more, delving into a variety of bloggers and blogging styles for the past year, my idea of a blogging celebrity has changed. I have to admit that I now consider Scoble a blogging celeb, wouldn’t you? Instapundit, Om Malik, Zeldman, Liz Strauss, Louise Fletcher, Lisa Haneberg, and others have done pretty well in my celebrity book, but I don’t see these people posing for People Magazine’s “Most Beautiful People in the World” yet. Have you?
So I ask you, who are your favorite celebrity bloggers? Who do you keep returning to, following every word they say, arguing with them, or praising them? Which bloggers do you talk about over the office water cooler or over lunch with friends? How do you complete this sentence: “Did you read what X wrote today?”

1. Andrew Sullivan. His politics used to rankle me, but in the last few years he’s seen the outcome of the policies and politicians he supported (sometimes tacitly) and gravitated back toward my way of thinking. In any case, I’ve always appreciated his intelligence and his refusal to be drawn into the pundit smackdown circus that passes for political discourse these days.
2. Dooce. Hers is a “personality blog” done about as well as I can envision it being done. She’s got a big personality, and she’s a good enough writer to infuse it into her posts.
This is very, very interesting. 🙂 I myself have been looking for blogs of famous people all around the globe, you know, getting to know what’s really on their minds and all. I’ll try to find one myself, and I’ll be back if I can find something worth reading. 😀
A definite celebrity in the aircraft-making (and marketing) business – and a very interesting resource for competition intelligence: http://www.boeing.com/randy/ Boeing Randy Baseler’s blog really looks like it’s written by Randy himself on his numerous and long flights. Although he cannot stray too much away from the official message, I find it rather more personal than many a corporate (or celeb) blog.
Wil Wheaton. Been a fan for years and I read his blog religiously.
I’m typing the blogger’s name, with links to the sites.
Politics: Atrios, Josh Marshall, Markos Moulitsas Zuniga
Entertainment: Mark Evanier
Comics: Heidi MacDonald
There’s a couple more in each category I could add, but I’ll just leave with a sample. (here’s to hoping my link code is all correct. sorry if I missed a quote mark or something.)
In the knitting blog world, blogs about knitting have made lots of people famous – household names to knitters and published authors as well. A few:

Oh, excellent. I’ve just learned out to knit and fell in love with David Demchuk’s Knit Like A Man blog. Thanks for reminding us!
Tom Peters, Doc Searls, Dave Barry, Chartreuse BETA, Improbulus and you.
Wow… a list of celebrity blogs. 🙂 This is quite interesting.
Hey, you have a great blog here! I’m definitely going to bookmark you!
I have a Eva Mendes site. It pretty much covers Eva Mendes.
Come and check it out if you get time 😉
Being a daddyblogger, I’d have to say I consider Greg over at http://www.daddytypes.com a bit of a celebrity in the blogging world.
I never really even thought of celebrities having the time to blog… I have to go check this out now.
Thanks
