The WordPress.com blog announces Spellchecker for WordPress.com blogs. You can now spell check your posts in WordPress.com.
Unfortunately, for those of us who know better and stay totally away from the often unfriendly WYSIWYG Rich Editor, we’re out of luck. I am not happy with the developers of WordPress.com for ignoring a good portion of the WordPress audience who still use want to make sure that their pages look and work “write”. Can I be a little scobelizer in the WordPress developers ear?
If you are one of the many who do not work with the Rich Editor, you don’t get the fun of being able to easily add graphics from your Image Upload area. You also don’t get a lot of the other bells and whistles that those using the WYSIWYG editor get. You have to do it manually. And now, you also don’t get spell check. Why? Who knows. Probably there is more fun in working with the Ajax gimmicks that with adding function EVERYWHERE, not just in one area.
I think it’s great to offer all the advanced wizbang features, but don’t forget the core elements. The stuff that was around when WordPress started. Cater to both groups. You offer both, so service both. Give us spell check!
Until then, I live in joy with my Firefox Spellbound spell check extension, which doesn’t play favorites.

Yea, I read that earlier but finally gave up on your tip (just like the first time I tried dl’ing that ext) because I can’t seem to find the right link for my FF (non-Thunderbird) setup, and then the dictionaries too. They should really make it easier to find for idiots like me.
Thunderbird and Firefox are related by company but not by product. You don’t have to have either one, and the Spellbound Firefox Extension only works with Firefox, not Thunderbird. Check the post I wrote on Spellbound again. I finally tracked down the links to get it working for Firefox after it disappeared for a while.
I came back to let you know I just came across the mirror that installed for me in one click: http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=474&hl=Spellbound. I think you may have directed me there this morning (or I wound up there somehow) but I clicked the frontend link which put me in a Sourceforge loop from hell lol instead of the very bottom one (dev edition) that I just did with np (that’s what I was ranting about, not your generosity, sorry for the confusion).
I just left Matt’s site again, other’s are letting him hear it too.
I knew about “related” and I was trying to say that I have FF so the Thunderbird wouldn’t help me.
