Who is he outsourcing all that work he claims credit for to, because I know he can't really be doing it all himself! (j/king)

Seriously the thing I most want to know is when the media manger is going to be completely overhauled?

The media manager is the biggest piece of core that hurts WordPress as a CMS. Media needs to have an organizational system more sophisticated than the file name + date uploaded... date uploaded organization is tolerable for a blogging platform but we all know WP is much more than that. We need folders, categories, tags, taxonomies, etc... Media needs metadata organization.

Note, CPTs was a huge step in that direction but it needs a proper UI built into core, perhaps something like Easy Custom Content Types. I'm operating on this developing as a given though whereas I really wonder if and when Media is getting overhauled.

I’m looking forward to meeting you both in Van!

And by "patches welcome" he means for the core of WordPress AND for the thousands of plugins that would stop functioning when we start renaming/moving/removing functions. Backwards compatibility is a pain, but it's part of why WordPress is doing so well.

Ask him when WP is gonna ditch its frail core and move to a MVC architecture so developing a site that's more complicated than a blog isn't like pulling teeth.

The various interfaces are pretty much well and done; it's time to make the back end not suck. Enough with the 1500 global functions and variables with no consistency in naming or parameter convention. Enough with the hundreds of undocumented hooks and the notion that having to hook into things to do anything is a good idea. Enough with the hacked implementation of custom post types and all the "core" global functions that still don't support them.
