In Blogging is About Caring Not Curating, Anne Helmond makes a very good point about how a blog is different from a directory, catalog, and many other “categories” a blog can be dumped into, summarizing it with:

A blog is more than a collection of blog posts on a certain topic. A blog is never finished. Blogging is about caring by writing new posts, commenting on other blogs and connecting to the network.

Blogging is about caring not curating.

As everyone rattles on about their assumptions and vague definitions of Web 2.0 and the new Web 3.0, the truth is that a blog is about caring, and caring and compassion has to be the foundation for the web in the future, from all perspectives, as it becomes more and more dependent upon the social and not just the technical.

I consider a blog an extension of who we are…on online medium where we allow our conversations to continue endlessly. Good relationships are founded upon conversations with people. Stimulating and caring conversations require more than just comment spam and the like.
