In my last post about podcasting, I went over the basics. But what people don’t know are the challenges! When I podcast, I face many challenges in the microphone, audio, mixer problems and even problems with the recording software! That is why it is very important to check all these things before you start recording. Before a podcast, I take a good 15-20 minutes checking all the mic levels, mixer levels, making sure that the theme music is set. I try to strive to make sure that everything is where it needs to be. A good podcast starts with good equipment!
Some problems that I have faced over my time as a podcaster go from anywhere to the software, to the microphone cable, to the internet being down! You have to be prepared! Check to make sure everything works before you start! If the reason you are podcasting is to have fun, great! But you need to take this serious. If you make an error, it is your job as the host to fix the error so it will never happen again. During episodes, I have guests come into the show! To have them on the show, we use a free program called Skype. When a guest from lets say L.A calls in, I need to make sure that the recorder picks up the guests voice!
My point being, be prepared! Problems do occur. Do not try to avoid them because they will come back and haunt you! But remember, have fun podcasting!
