We haven’t had an exciting WordPress contest in a while and now there are two. One hosted by Weblog Tools Collection for WordPress Plugins and the other for WordPress Themes designed with the Sandbox WordPress Theme.
WordPress Plugins Competition
Weblog Tools Collection announced the “WordPress Plugin Competition 2.0”. It began June 1 and runs to July 31.
Contestants are challenged to produce new WordPress Plugins and submit them through the Plugin Competition Blog. For those following the exciting new Plugins, the blog will feature them as they are released.
There is a Contact Form for questions and sponsorships (some great prizes will be awarded), and a list of the Preliminary Rules for entering the competition.
You may think that every WordPress Plugin that can be developed has been developed. That’s not true. I featured some great ideas in “Wanted: WordPress Plugins for Me” and I know there are still plenty of good ideas out there that would make great Plugins.
You also don’t have to reinvent the wheel. There are a number of WordPress Plugins which are no longer being supported which can be recreated even better with new code and powerful functions. Why not rebuilt the wheel instead of reinventing it.
Sandbox WordPress Theme Competition
The Sandbox Designs Competition was announced last week, asking WordPress Theme designers to challenge themselves to designing a new Theme with the Sandbox WordPress Theme.
The Sandbox Theme is the latest in powerful WordPress Themes. It is WordPress Widget enabled and features a “blank template” with a LOT of customization features and excellent CSS structuring.
I use it on here on my WordPress.com blog.
Like many such competitions, the key is to use the architecture in place and focus only on the CSS stylesheet for your design elements. I love contests like this. The creativity explodes!
There is a lot of information on how to submit your entry, the Official Rules, a list of competition participants page, and more on the The Sandbox Designs Competition site.
I expect this summer to be filled with WordPress creativity. Don’t you?

well, i am really waiting for the results…the new plugins and themes are bound to be good, and well, we can use the best, right??? 😉
