Blog Challenge: Geographical Blog Reading

Where do your favorite bloggers live? Do you know? Does it matter? Well, for this blog challenge it does.

This week’s blog challenge is to research your favorite bloggers, usually the ones you read through your feed reader or bookmark and return to repeatedly, to find out where they live and work.

The answer might be more interesting than you think. They might live and work in one country, or live in one and work in another. Or they may not have a fixed geographical location, much as I don’t since I travel on the road, though the past few years has found me staying more in the United States than out.

Finding where your favorite bloggers live might be a challenge as many do not declare where they live, so be inventive and see if you can figure out their location. If not, ask.

When you figure out where your favorite bloggers are geographically located, blog about what you learned about discovering this information, and then if it changes your perception of them. Sometimes it helps to know where someone is coming from, and sometimes it doesn’t matter. Which is it for these bloggers and for your blog reading experience?

This is one of many I offer weekly to help kick your blogging ass. For more challenges, see the category.

It becomes much easier when bloggers use GeoURL tags on their sites.

See GeoURL (2.0). These are meta tags which you can add to full version WordPress blogs to set the geographical location of your blog. The goal was to use these to help search engines and others locate “you” or your business by geographical proximity to a specific location. I don’t think much as been done on this for a couple of years.

I’m a big fan of ORBlogs.com. It keeps me connected to fellow bloggers from Oregon. By the way, I don’t recall seeing your blog on the ORBlogs list… :)

“find out where your favorite bloggers live” – otherwise known as stalking! ;)

Not too hard for me as my main reading is golf blogs, and the people writing are quite open about where they are, what they do etc.

Eric: Which excuse do you want? I just moved to Oregon but I’ve hardly been here since I moved. I may be “living” somewhere else in six months or a year. I live on the road traveling a lot. I have several “home bases” around the world. Pick one. ;-)

I can empathize. I hope you’ve been able to enjoy some of the wonders of Oregon :)
