The Spam Blogged bit of clutter on my blog is there only because Matt Mullenweg asked. It's a widget for Automattic's Akismet. I believe that Spam Karma has a link or javascript you can add to your blog. It's a great way to promote that you are using Spam Karma but no one really cares except you. I'd recommend keeping your blog clutter to a minimum. ;-)

Hi there!
I had a blog in WP.com but then I moved to my own server, it's not that expensive ( I think I could by those beers later ;) ). Anyway. I see you have a "Spam Blocked" section. I would like to know how you did that as I want to put it on my site :)
thanks!

I just installed it. I was thinking about it for a while but didn't know how it would work with Akismet, which just wasn't cutting it lately. Spam has been getting really bad on my blogs. What's cool is it seems to fix a serious problem that I was having regarding Ultimate Tag Warrior. Since the update to WP 2.1, UTW would delete all tags when I would approve a comment. Since I approve them all manually, I would have to pull up the original post, copy all the tags, delete the comment, edit the post and copy all the tags back into the post. It was getting to be too much maintenance. But the thought of turning manual comment approval off didn't turn me on, because I would be letting all that nasty spam through, which would probably just attract more spam.

Anyway, it works great and just saved me a lot of time... for now, that is. Thanks for the heads up to the new release. :)

Comment spam ebbs and flows. Our receipt and control of what is filtered out also changes as Akismet and other comment spam fighting tools like Spam Karma and Bad Behavior improve and change.

Last year, there were three months with hardly a single comment spam. I thought for sure that we'd managed to beat them down. Two months later, their ranks were multiplied by 15. Made up for the slight slowdown.

We've got to criminalize comment spam at the source. That's the only way to stop it.

Strangely, comment spam for the past few days has been a fraction of what it has been the last couple of months. It would be interesting to find out why.
Still, I am going to take your advice and look at Spam Karma. It is a real pain going through some of it to make sure a good comment has not gotten labeled by Akismet. I am very thankful for Akismet.
