Interested in adding or setting up a video blog with WordPress? Michael Pollock of Solostream has written “Set up a Video Blog (or How to Add Flash Video to Your WordPress Site)” as a guide to help you.
Maybe you have a business site and want to provide some video for customers and/or potential customers. For example, when I designed a site for Hi-Way Campers, an RV dealer, I included video walk-through tours of some of the RVs for folks who started their RV shopping online (see an example here). Website video would also be great for restaurants, conference facilities, hotels, resorts, real estate brokers or anyone with a product people need to see.
Whatever your reason for wanting to add video to your site, it’s pretty easy with WordPress and a couple of other tools. Before anyone else mentions it, let me say at the outset that sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Google Video and the like also make it pretty easy to upload and share video. If, however, you’re a tad paranoid like me and you’d rather not rely on another service (who may insert ads into your video at some point) to help you share your video with the world, this tutorial is for you.
The instructions look fairly simple, a few WordPress Plugins and tools and you are off making your own home movies or whatever.

One thing that bothers me about videos I have seen on blogs, is they are so large they throw off the formatting. I use Firefox, so maybe that is the reason.
I tend to move on and don’t often watch them, as they also take a long time to load, and I am on cable! Do any of these have compact versions?
hey lorelle:
thanks for the mention. i’m a fan.
best – michael
You should take a look at Enric Tellers VPIP plugin for WordPress too. It alows for embedding of several types of video files (and multiple types too). You can see it in action at my vlog LO-FI SAINT LOUIS (http://lofistl.com). Also Galacitcast has released their hacked WP theme that is made to emulate Rocketboom. They’ve also solved the problem of creating RSS Feeds by mime-type with this hack.
WP is an excellent vlogging platform, but it could be a lot better. Enric and Rudy have made good progress in this regard.
Hey Lorelle:
I just did a follow-up to this tutorial. This time it’s How to Add Quicktime video.
It’s here.
hi there,
do you have to have the wordpress software installed on your own pc, in order to play ‘youtube videos?
becausei don’t have the wordpress installed..to be honest, i wouldn’t know how too, with my sql etc.
zum~
Viewing YouTube videos has NOTHING to do with WordPress. If you have video capabilities on your computer, you can view videos. And WordPress is not “installed on your own pc”. It is installed on a server and is a blogging program. You can include videos, mp3, pictures, and others stuff on your blog. But viewing them has to do with other software on your computer, and nothing to do with WordPress.
Very interesting stuff…I’m a newbie to blogging and have a WP site but am struggling to include videos ( other than link type). I’ll continue to read your info on installing VP in WP. THANKS!
hi this is not for free…it requires another plugin which you will buy..is there any video player that has GPL license
