@ TraderRod: Money. It costs about $15 a year (last I looked) to get a direct URL domain name from WordPress.com. It is still a WordPress.com blog, freely hosted with the benefits and limitations accordingly, but you will be blogging on the state of the art blog service and system. Just so you know, those with the wordpress.com domain name haven't been hurt in any way by that structure, which defies the myth that you HAVE to have a domain of your own. Unlike those on blogspot, like yourself, so far there isn't the negative association when people see blogspot in the URL. I've heard of some bloggers so frustrated with blogspot blogs, they have banned all comments from those with that URL. Too radical to me, but that's the reputation it has earned.

One thing I would like to learn is :

How do some people change the site name to their own name without the “wordpress” in it?

i.e. in your case could you change your site name from http://lorelle.wordpress.com to http://lorelle.com ?
