The Oldest Living Blogger – 84 Years and Blogging

The Blogging Journalist directed me to “A New Wrinkle on Blogging” from Pantagraph, an article about Prescott “Pete” Lustig, an 84 year old blogger who blogs at The Late Life Crisis.

As the name of his blog implies, Lustig believes “late life” is more descriptive and less patronizing than the term ‘senior citizen.’ He started “The Late Life Crisis” last May and the site has had more than 100,000 visitors.

Besides allowing him to interact with interesting people, the blog helps keep him busy.

“I write quickly,” he said, and something always pops into his head when he sees a blank computer screen.

He tries to avoid politics and religion because he doesn’t want to offend anyone, especially regular readers – many of them middle-aged – who’ve become close friends.

“They either know they’ll be here (late life) before too long,” he said, “or they have aging parents.”

    Lorelle,
Read your blog a lot, never commented ’til now. Sorry, but there’s a blogger who’s got Pete beat by nearly a decade: http://dontoearth.blogspot.com/

He’s Canadian, a former journalist with the CBC. He’s not been posting lately, but explains why… sort of… in his most recent post. Do check it out.

    cheers,
    Ian in Hamburg

    Hello Lorelle,
I’m posting this comment with great sadness. On August 21, 2007, Prescott T. “Pete” Lustig passed away. According to his beloved wife, Penny, he went in peace.

Pete was my mentor and also my friend. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

    Sincerely,
    Kat Smith

Kat: Thank you so much for letting me know. The blogosphere, and the world, has lost a precious gem in the coal mines of babble.

I worked with Pete for a few years when he lived in Florida and we stayed in touch many years after we both moved. I followed his blog for a while and we even did a couple of projects together in 2006. After a few years of silence, I started googling Pete, wondering about him. Today, I finally discovered the reason for that silence. Tanks Lorelle for bringing closure to my relationship with Pete. He was indeed a revolutionary, a humorist and definitely, one of a kind.
