Ads on Feeds

Maybe I’m having an off day. Maybe I think that some things on the web should be free from the assault of advertising. Maybe I’m tired of having ads hound me everywhere I go on the net. And do you click ads you see on the Internet?

Advertising has now invaded feeds. I’m not liking it. What about you?

Frankly, I don’t think ads in feeds serve the reader. I know this seems contrary to most advertising which aims to be in your face. I’ve debated long and hard with myself about how much/where/etc. In the end it comes down to serving my readers. On some pages I feel that Adsense truly does serve them because the ads reflect the content well and this gives the reader more opportunities to find what they are looking for. In feeds, ads quickly become obnoxious because they are

    1) typically the same

2)appear every 3rd post which is still way to often.

I personally think it better for blog writers to write posts which require readers to come back to the main website and once there they can present relevant ads along with excellent content.

I too have the same opinion. But now many affiliate feeds are available, you can just download or insert your affiliate code in the feed, republish it. A lot of spam will appear in the users reader just like junk emails in our inbox. Till today keeping our inbox clean is nearly impossible.

My name isn’t Mary, but I thought that would be funny. How do you add code to a feed to get the ads to show?
