Antispam: Posting headers and IP addresses and such only encourages rather than discourages spammers, as has been proven time and time again over the years. Since they are after the link love, you've just given them plenty of it. Working with the triumvirate of comment spam protection for WordPress blogs really knocks most of them out of the park when it comes to blog comment spam. Email is harder to deal with, but I've found great results with Mozilla Thunderbird's built in spam protection combined with my web host's filtering program. Cuts out a lot of the junk and Thunderbird "learns" over time. Which is similar to what Akismet does for the WordPress and related programs community.

We won't kill of spam, via email or blogs, until we kill the income spammers make. Someone is still gullible and making them money. We have to educate EVERYONE to never click nor respond nor open an potential spam so all sources of potential income is removed. That's the only way this will be stopped.

re: antispam #3

Posting the spammers just proliferates. And I doubt anyone new is going to check your site first before dealing with their own spam.

As Lorelle says, get a heavy-duty email program and system instead of Outlook Express

re-direct arriving spam to spam@uce.gov, or reportphishing@antiphishing.org,

Avoid Yahoo! newsgroups subscriptions

I have my spam blockers turned on and I still get 1000's of spam emails a day. I have a whole bunch of domains and it's getting to the point where it takes about an hour a day to sort my spam, set up filters and then delete all the junk.

I don't think that outlook express can even handle all the rules I've written, because every time I write a new one, some of the old junk starts coming back.

So, I've decided to start posting the IP addresses, email addresses and headers to the spam I get. I don't know if this is going to junk up the web worse, or let newbies know the email they just got from their bank is really a phishing trip. (That of course assumes they do a search and then read what I've written about each type of spam I get.)

What are your thoughts on this?

First, the above referenced article will help. Second, use Mozilla Thunderbird for your email client. Third, check with your email service to find out how to turn on email spam filters. Fourth, there are thousands of articles out there, including this one, that will give you tons of advice on how to do this, and plenty of programs you can buy or get free that promise to help you limit email spam though it's trial and error to find the right one. Personally, I used to get hundreds and hundreds a day and now I get 2-4 turning on the spam filter for my email service and using Thunderbird.

Lastly, if it is really annoying you, then change to a high quality email service that has good spam filters. And NEVER, repeated NEVER, give out your legit email to anyone online except friends, co-workers, and family. Use your old email address for online requests of your email. The more public and shared your email is, the more likely it is to be used by email spammers.
