Google Maps Web Cams

I’ve written about many of the cool tricks, tips, and things to do with Google in the past, and I have another to add to the list.

Google Maps Web CamsButterfat combines Google Maps with live web cams in a neat way. Arrive at the main page and you are greeted with a map of the world with popup marks wherever there is a live cam on record with them. Click it and a small video screen pops up with a view through the web cam. The screen even features a neat background shadow.

Not all web cams are active 24 hours a day, and in the night, most of those are dark and too hard to see, but the rest are active and fun to watch whether they update every few seconds or minutes.

For the traveler, this is a fun way to check the weather and how things look, even if the view is out someone’s apartment window. Still, it’s fun to see what the world looks like outside of someone else’s window.

There are tons more web cams that can be found through that aren’t on the map. I look forward to more locations being added over time.
