Embedding WordPress Into OS Commerce

Michael Wender’s article on “Embedding WordPress into OS Commerce” is a great guide for those using WordPress for marketing and selling products online.

OS Commerce is open source online shopping e-commerce available for free. You can set up your own store or mall, using WordPress, within OS Commerce as it works with PHP and MySQL, just like WordPress.

In my early blogging days, I never thought that an online store could be possible with WordPress. Thus, I settled for online store web designs that are commercially prepared and paid for by the clients like me. I guess the trend in open source has allowed this to happen and I’m thankful that WP and OS Commerce have come into terms. This will be a very big help for people who are into the online store business. WordPress has been my favorite blogging platform, the flexibility, the themes, functions, and many more are simply amazing.

I’m very interested in learning more about OS Commerce. I have a book I’d like to sell on my WP blog and someone told me you have to be self-hosted to do this but it doesn’t sound like it with what you’re saying. How can I learn more about apply OS Commerce to my WP blog. Also, what blogging conferences do you recommend to a newbie. My niche is women and self-care, new motherhood, moms and self-care, women’s emotional health. I am a psychologist and self-published author with a new book out about adjusting to motherhood. Good to meet you.

You can sell things “indirectly” on WordPress.com, though links to other sites. For example, my books are sold through my publisher, thus I link to their site where the transaction takes place. You could do the same. Read the WordPress.com terms of service and FAQ for more updated information on working with WordPress.com sites. If you would like to really embrace ecommerce, there are a variety of Plugins and techniques now available for self-hosted WordPress sites.

As for conferences, Blog World Expo and any WordPress WordCamp near you is fantastic. If you are deadly serious about taking your business online, then I recommend only one conference, Successful Online Business Conference (SOBCon) which is this year in a couple weeks. I’d sign up right now for it, and save yourself attending the dozen or more conferences that this one covers. It’s a masters class and it sounds like it would be perfect for you. I drop everything every year to attend this conference, and if I were to do only one, it would be this. Good luck with your projects.
