Looking for Blogging Ideas?

While it seems like installing and setting up your blog is the hardest part of the challenges associated with blogging, the reality is that coming up with new ideas is actually the hardest part of blogging. For a while, the ideas and words flow. You can barely keep up with them. But over time, energy and enthusiasm wanes and the ideas begin to dry up. So you go prowling the Internet to see what other people are saying and start linking to their good ideas. Still, the thrill wanes.

What you need is a kick in the idea butt to get those brain functions jazzed and excited about various projects to blog about.

I’ll be talking more about how to find things to blog about, but I stumbled across a fascinating collection of creative idea generators on Idea Generation Methods. They list dozens of methods to stimulate the brainstorming process to get you thinking about a new idea and how to bring it to fruition.

The methods have been drawn not just from the worlds of creative problem solving and innovation, but also from other worlds such as organisational change, strategic planning, psychotherapy, the new sciences and the creative arts…This is intended to be a comprehensive database of idea generation methods…

Examples include 5 Whys and a How, Sentence Writing, Thesaurus Browsing, Altered States of Consciousness, Circular Response, Backward Mapping, Be The Problem, Haiku, Mind Mapping, and Wildest Idea Session.

This is not the only brainstorming and idea generating resource. Also check out Mycoted.com’s Creativity Techniques, Brainstorming Ideas from Models for Integrating Technology, Creative Thinking and Lateral Thinking Techniques, Seven Secrets to Good Brainstorming, and Brainstorming Ideas from Blog Conference.

If you find your imagination and ideas drying up, give one or more of these methods a try.

Do you have any good blog brainstorming ideas?

A while back I had a bad case of blogger’s block, and a real desire to write SOMETHING. I did some web searches to see if I could come up with a “blog idea site” and the best I could find was a very lame site named blogideas.com. That site is no more. I ended up starting my own site on the premise that readers could suggest blog article ideas for bloggers to write about, the bloggers could link to articles they’ve written based on the ideas, and everyone would win. That site is online now at http://www.bloginspiration.com/

It looks like the site went down. Thanks for pointing that out. Still, see the links in the comments above for more content. I”ll give these people a little more time to get their site up running again before I delete this post. Thanks!
