It didn’t take long. We had just mentioned rumors of Google’s new submission method called Google Base when we stumbled upon the first release of this new technology.
Google Base states:
Google Base is Google’s database into which you can add all types of content. We’ll host your content and make it searchable online for free.
Examples of items you can find in Google Base:
- Description of your party planning service
- Articles on current events from your website
- Listing of your used car for sale
- Database of protein structures
You can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base. In fact, based on the relevance of your items, they may also be included in the main Google search index and other Google products like Froogle and Google Local.
Unfortunately, as of this posting, their FAQ and information links lead to dead ends (this is how “hot off the presses” this news is ), but from what I gather, you need to be registered with Google in order to use this, and it is mostly designed for listing specific items like things for sale, current sales and marketing events, specific items like a grocery list, and possibly articles from your website or blog, though the layout for entering the information is fairly vague and more geared towards “things” rather than articles.
More information will be coming soon on what this is and how it works.
