Well, there’s a lot of answers to this simple question. First, this service never worked and has been lost to time. Second, the database that would need to be created to host such a list would be huge. So I doubt a Plugin could handle it.

Third, tagging worked and didn’t work. People used whatever terms they wanted, not always thinking “search first”, and the promise of Technorati and tags to help searching also didn’t materialize.

The best way to use tags is as microcategories for your blog’s content, thus, it’s up to you to determine which words to use in the search terms that would generate content on your blog.

A few have poked at tags through related content, but again, the database issue comes into play to process all the growing content on your blog, compare words and phrases, and generate a list.

So manual is where we are at present until coding, databases, and computer speeds increase to handle and manipulate all that data.

It’s also interesting to see WordPress finally respond to the long requested tags in their core programming at a time when people are stopping their use of them since they aren’t as beneficial now that we’ve played with them so much and found out the reality.

Was there ever a plugin developed for tag suggest for wordpress by itself? Now that tags are integrated into WordPress 2.3 this would probably be a hot plugin.

Check out Term Extractor For Tags which uses Yahoo! tags. That might help. Let me know. And honestly, think of tags as keywords and you'll be on the right track. What words will people use to find your post. That's the ticket!

No need to apologize. I was glad just to learn about the tagyu idea. It’s a very interesting idea to have a site that would suggest tags. Maybe in practice it’s harder to implement. I imagine a lot of authors feel they have a pretty good feel of what tags they would prefer to use.

Yeah. I keep waiting for it to be back up working. It is and it isn’t. I wrote this over a year ago, and the service has really not lived up to expectations. Sorry.

Looks like tagyu is gone or down. Too bad. Thought I’d give it a try.

I gave Tagyu the text

Plain text is powerful. It is easily searched, it is portable across platforms, it is easy processed by programs, it can be converted to look nicely (this site and my wiki are powered by plain text) , and it can be massaged into other formats.

and it came up with wiki, rails and ide. Not quite what I was expecting...
