Good question. How much is a webmaster equivalent in your area? That is how much you should be paid.

As more and more teachers are taking on the responsibility of maintaining not just their own class blogs but school blogs, this is becoming a big issue. Honestly, one person should be hired to manage the site, especially if the school hosts more than a couple hundred students and a variety of activities. How much should they be paid depends upon the average hourly rate for your community for technical skills and content generation (think “editor”).

Do some comparative research in your community and then you will have an idea.

However, if you are spending a couple hours a week helping out, that isn’t a big burden, in general, so asking for a pay hike and those hours to be included might be enough. Or work with the other teachers and/or parents or PTA to work with them to help them volunteer to maintain the site and you just oversee it so it doesn’t get crazy or off topic. There are a lot of ways to do this, as well as fund the project.

I’m a high school teacher and have been given the extra duty of maintaining the school’s website. There has never been any extra duty pay for this, but I recently asked for extra duty pay because I’m spending 10-20 hours a month outside of my school duties updating the website and handling issues related to the site. How much should I get paid for this extra duty?

Cost varies from place to place.. India and Philippines are popular outsourcing hub for first world countries.. Here development cost is usually more than 50% cheaper than in more industrialized countries.

It depends. I haven’t set up a full online store, and that’s what you may have to do, depending upon what you are doing. Or take PayPal, and that will solve some of your problems. It will be cheaper if you are only taking a few orders a month compared to hundreds of thousands of orders. So, you have to do your research to find out the answer to that question, depending upon your needs.
