Good for you. The first step is always the hardest. Check the Codex again and you will find all the instructions you need to help you get started. And always check the Task List to see what needs doing, since there is a lot to do, this gives you direction. Thanks! And welcome to the fun.

Well, I’ve taken the first step by creating a username for myself – Webdivauk. I think the best place for me to start would be reading through documents for grammer and spelling, that way I can also get to know how the Codex is structured.

I could build myself up to writing or answering simple tech questions, especially from those with little tech knowledge.

As you read, it started for me with the damn bad spelling of “seperate” instead of “separate”. If you can tell the difference, then you can volunteer to help on the WordPress Codex.

There is a lot of help needed everywhere with WordPress. From answering simple or high tech questions about WordPress for users on the Support Forum, to correcting spelling and grammar errors or writing up complex technical documentation on the WordPress Codex.

The organization needs a lot of help in a lot of areas, and as you also saw, help grows out of little efforts that turn into bigger efforts that can spin into huge events. Every little bit helps.

So what do you think you could do?

I totally appreciate the time and effort that goes into the WordPress Codex. I spent quite some time editing for Dmoz.org and I fully understand the commitment and the passion behind providing information, presenting it in a uniform fashion and getting it right.

I have been thinking about volunteering, but as I’m in no way a coding guru I’m not sure where I could help, but I would like to, even in a small way.
