Want an invite to join wordpress.com? Well, invites to get onto this site as a blogger are FREE, but mdawaffe, a notorious volunteer and mastermind behind a lot of what goes on behind the scenes in WordPress, is selling off his invite on ebay.

He’s promised that proceeds will go to a good cause, so you only have a few hours left to get your precious, but not free, invite to wordpress.com.

WordPress and WordPress.com is free. This was in 2005 when WordPress.com was new and this was a silly publicity getter done by one of the volunteers to raise interest in WordPress.com blogs which were then by invitation only. For more on this see Don’t Buy WordPress – It’s Free.
